The new wave in tillage practices

Tillage practices play a crucial role on farms for several reasons including its relationship to cost of production, soil productivity, soil compaction, soil sustainability and water quality. Tillage is adequately defined by Lal1 as physical, chemical or biological soil manipulation to optimize conditions for germination, seedling establishment and crop growth. Today tillage practices vary from farm to farm but the overall goal of tillage today is to increase crop production while conserving resources (soil and water) and protecting the environment.

In recent years there has been a shift from intensive tillage to more conservative based tillage practices. Conservation tillage1 practice leave at least 30% of the soil surface covered by plant residue after planting to reduce erosion by water; or where soil erosion by wind is the primary concern. The types of conservative tillage practices being adopted are I. no-tillage (slot planting)
II. mulch tillage
III. strip or zonal tillage
IV. ridge till (including no-till on ridges)
V. reduced or minimum tillage

The shift in practices and focus on conservation Tillage has also led to more advancements and developments in the tillage machinery across the globe. Newer design disc blades have been developed for effectively cutting crop residue, reducing soil disturbance and precisely planting seed and fertilizer. Farmers across the globe are constantly demanding Tillage Tools that aid in conservative Tillage practices.

We are increasingly seeing a demand for coulters, chisels & saw tooth blades for planting narrow seedbeds for soil preservation during No-Till practices. At Cultivatus, we are constantly analyzing the farmers needs and are continuously adapting our designs to meet their requirements for high quality disc blades, coulters, rotavators and other tillage tools.

We recently started manufacturing sweeps in order to aid conservative tillage practices across the globe. Further, we also like to use this platform to engage with more equipment manufacturers and farmers to collaborate with them to manufacture more efficient and longer lasting disc blades and tillage tools.

We are constantly enhancing our products by using the best steel with the right mixture of alloys to improve the life & strength of disc blades, coulters and other tillage tools. We also research and develop more innovative designs to further increase productivity of farms worldwide.
